Etched
in Time produces "Hollywood style" video, offering affordable packages with
add-on special effects and dual camera coverage
Interviewing Joseph Moore from Etched in Time Video Studios
Etched in Time's Joseph Moore says that it's top-of-the-line cinematic
video equipment, special editing and
creative camera work
that sets his
wedding videography company apart and allows them to deliver a distinctive,
high quality video to brides and grooms. "We offer a Hollywood-style shoot
designed to match your budget." Joseph is the owner of Etched in Time and the
studio's editing specialist. They often shoot with dual cameras from morning
to night and even offer an online guide for you to make an informed decision
about hiring a video service. With Joseph and his hand-picked team of camera
operators being a favourite with so many brides across Southwestern Ontario,
we sat down with Joseph to find out more...
Creating a reflection of you
Etched in Time makes it their goal to document what's important to you, in a
way that best reflects your personality. They can blend your own home movies
and personal photos with the wedding footage. This makes for an amazing
movie of special memories for you and your groom, as well as friends and
extended family. As Joseph says, "Your wedding video isn't just for you;
it's for the next generation."
He
also believes that every couple has its own combination of personalities
and distinctive styles. That's why he believes a consultation is important.
Joseph wants to make sure he knows who you are, what you're looking for,
and what he's likely to expect on your wedding day so that Etched in Time
can adopt techniques and a tempo specifically for your wedding video. All of
this helps ensure your video is a true reflection of you.

In other
words...
"...It
wasn't until after we watched our DVD that we realized
how many precious moments would have been missed without
it. One candid shot in particular was priceless. You
caught our niece giving our little nephew a kiss on the
cheek then smiling proudly. Meanwhile, he was rubbing
the kiss from his face... Our wedding video is
absolutely awesome – we love how it was all put together
and the picture quality is totally clear... We didn't
even notice you at the ceremony but you still managed to
get great shots and you included all our special
requests... It was great to deal with a caring person
who loves his work."
- Danyse & Jeremy Van Dam
"...Now
that we have our DVD I wanted you to know that no other
videographer compared when it came to value and quality.
Not only that, when I think about all the services we
hired for our wedding day, Etched In Time was honestly
the most professional – very organized, courteous and on
time... We wanted our video to have a modern styling and
that's exactly what we received. It has all the special
camera angles, blurred edges, fades and it's precisely
synchronized to the music... You went out of your way to
capture the day for us. I still remember you standing in
the rain, soaking wet, just to get the shots you wanted;
and all with a smile on your face!"
- Dr. Marisa Marchionda &
Nicholas Polasek
"...We plan to have children one day and we talked about
what it would feel like to show them our wedding day in
living video. Somehow you caught every special moment
without even being noticed. You blended in with the rest
of our guests. Our DVD is just amazing. Your creativity
is over and above what we expected to get. The video and
sound quality are excellent too..."
-
Jule & Brett Rigby
"All
I can say is... Our wedding video is nothing like we've
seen before. It looked like a professionally created
store-bought DVD. Somehow you caught every special
moment and a few we weren't even aware of! The added
touch was the 'drive away sequence' with the special
effects; horn beeping and screeching tires. We love it!
...When I think about the service you gave us, how you
answered all our questions and were always on time, I
think we got more than what we paid for. I would
definitely... recommend you to family and friends."
-
Veronica & Michael Berg

When you hire a full service video production studio, you should be able to
see the vast difference right away between going with a professional and
relying on a family member who's 'pretty good with a camera.' The
differences range from lighting
and sound to angles and the steadiness of the camera. Etched in Time also believes that there's a significant
difference between each professional videographer out there. Which is why they
created the free online guide, "What To Look For In A Videographer" to help
you get professional results for a reasonable price.
Your
Hollywood movie
Usually
with two cameras, Etched in Time uses Hollywood-style techniques such
as interesting angles, special effects, artistic shots, zooming and image
framing to produce their videos. Once the footage is put into Joseph's
hands, it's viewed, marked for content, edited and enhanced with effects,
and then put to music (with the help of the bride and groom for song
selections).
Dual cameras allow for special editing but it also means you can shoot two
different subjects at the same time, or one subject from two locations. Two
cameras can capture your walk down the aisle with shots from separate
locations such as the church balcony and the altar. Thinking the way a director
might, try to envision a shot of your groom's smile, along with a shot of
you as you make your entrance, and a close-up of you throwing your bouquet
with a wide shot of your female guests scrambling to catch it. These camera
angles can add a lot of life to your video and can trigger fuller wedding
memories in years to come.
The
videographers work hard to be at the right spot at the right time. They also
try not to be a distraction, aiming to keep a low profile while shooting.
Everything a great film needs
"A
wedding is a huge theatrical production that only runs for one day. It is
emotional, dramatic, comedic... Everything a great film needs." And
Joseph
uses his own experience to know what you need. For over five years, he's
shot videos for weddings from Toronto to Windsor.
Even though Joseph is great behind the camera, he's truly in his element
when he's on the editing room floor. With 18 years
of experience in writing, directing, acting, editing and camera work, Joseph
has played a part in just about every job that relates to video production.
Joseph also studied Post-Production (aka editing) at the Toronto Film
School.
Etched in Time employs a team of 8 cameramen to meet the demands of all the
wedding dates that come their way. During wedding season, this team typically
shoots 4 to 8 weddings per weekend. They are all top notch in their field
and most work on other productions including television and corporate work.
Using what Joseph describes as broadcast quality, top grade cameras and
wireless audio, their videographers rotate to keep the image choices fresh.
Joseph promises that his team respects the importance of your wedding day
memories and that they'll never miss an important moment.
Trained observers
There's a lot of charm in the wedding stories created by Etched in Time.
Sweet, genuine and romantic is the best way to describe what style to
expect. Joseph likes to call his videographers "shadows with cameras." He
adds, "We work closely with our couples leading up to the day and after
the day to make sure that they are getting exactly what they want. On the
day, we are trained observers, not directors. We capture your day as it
unfolds, we don't orchestrate it."
Chris and Christie Smith hired Etched in Time to put their October 7th, 2007
wedding on film. Christie explained, "I was looking for something simple
(yet informal) that would capture the candid moments of the day that I knew
I'd miss because I was too busy."
Unlike still photography, a video camera can capture the day with sound and
movement. Having your day filmed means you'll see and hear your husband
saying "I do" again. That's sure to be a tingling moment to relive for years to
come. Not to mention other voices, music and moments you'll rediscover or
perhaps witness for the first time.
Christie told staff at The Ring that Etched in Time captured the
personalities of herself and her husband in their video. "It's fun and non-traditional, like us. I also liked that they
had a subtle presence at the wedding. I didn't feel as though I was being
recorded... that would have made me even more nervous."
Affordable vs. cheap
You'll be the stars of your own movie, without the Hollywood budget. Joseph
suggests that couples shouldn't assume videography is expensive. He strives
to make sure Etched in Time has affordable options for just about every
budget. Etched in Time prides themselves on being affordable, but not
necessarily the cheapest. They don't want to sacrifice quality in their
production of your video. "Make sure that when you're thinking of hiring a
videographer, you're comparing apples to apples."
To
make sure couples can see the Etched in Time quality, Joseph regularly posts
video samples to the company web site for anyone to check out at any time.
"Samples are important. They give you a real idea of what your wedding day
video might look like."
Video
packages
Etched in Time offers four packages: Bronze, Silver, Gold and The Crown
Jewel. The
Bronze
package, priced at $995, provides you with 1 camera coverage, ceremony start
to finish, and full reception until the last dance. They film the entire
day, aiming to catch every important moment.
Silver is priced at $1295. This includes all that the Bronze level provides
but with 2 cameras to cover your wedding ceremony. At a price of $1595,
Gold
offers the same services as the Bronze package, too, but with 2
cameras and all day coverage.
The Crown
Jewel package is inclusive of everything from all the other packages and
many of the sequences available. It rounds out to an even $3200.
To
all the above packages, you can add sequences for $300 each. Sequences
include: bride getting ready, groom getting ready, park/photos, or secret
love messages.
If
you like, segments of the video may be converted to black and white or given
a vintage look to add variety and visual appeal. Other parts of the footage
may have special colour effects for cinematic impact. Etched in Time makes
sure they use these effects in moderation to keep the focus on you and your
groom. You also have the option to later purchase the uncut version of the
day for the cost of replication. It's a great idea for future use, but
doesn't replace the professionally edited version included in your package.
Of
the packages offered, most couples choose the Silver package and add
sequences. An investment of $1500 to $2000 is the average for this
package. The most popular sequence a couple chooses tends to be the secret love messages (glad
to hear there are a lot of romantic couples marrying today!)
Preserve your wedding day memories
Your videographers work with creativity and humour and want what's important
to you.
Setting them apart from others is their availability to set-up at your
residence to provide additional footage – preparing for the ceremony,
departing your home, arriving at the wedding.
In
creating your story, Joseph strives to capture both visuals and sound: "I
try to include audio whenever possible. Especially the humour of the day.
The day is about the couple, their story and what's important to them." Your
event shoot is only the start of the work. Joseph will take all the raw
footage, assess the images, then create a video story of your entire event.
"This is where the fun begins for me. I love to recreate the couple's
special day so they can relive it again and again," Joseph told us.
He
estimates that it takes 25 to 30 hours of editing, authoring, coding and
compression before your 60 to 90 minute video is ready to
distribute. If your ceremony involves a full mass, the video will then have
additional length. Joseph can also add to your collection with a short music
video that can be delivered by email. Your musical tastes are taken into
account as you help choose the music.
Your DVD will be produced using a non-linear digital editing system and
comes with full menus, chapter selections, special features, and direct to
disk printing. Etched in Time will present your wedding story in a custom
printed hard case.
Booking with Etched in Time
First check out their website which is packed with details about their
service. The packages are outlined online so it's easy for you to build your videography
wish-list. Then Joseph or another video consultant will visit you to finalize the details and make sure that your
package is what you want and need. They'll even bring samples of their
videos for you to look over.
Once you decide what package you like best, you'll fill out an
agreement and pay a 20% deposit. From that point, you'll pay in
increments. You'll be asked for 40% of the package price the following month, 20%
one month before the wedding, with the final 20% due at pick up of your DVD.
The
team at Etched in Time can take their cameras on the road to reach your
wedding, no matter the location. "We love to do destination weddings in
the tropics. But we also love to shoot weddings in Ontario," says
Joseph.
There's no travel charge for weddings taking place in Southwestern Ontario.
For other locations, Joseph will discuss exact travel charges with you.
Etched in Time is happy to custom design a payment plan to suit any budget.
The studio prefers bookings to be made one year ahead of your wedding, but
because they have several cameramen on their roster, they accommodate last
minute bookings whenever possible. "We've done a wedding with only 1 week's
notice. We'd prefer to work with the bride and groom longer, but that's not
always possible." Whatever your needs, Etched in Time aims to provide you
with exceptional service and a marvelous DVD of memories.
Stepping up for The Brides' Ball
Etched in Time offered videography coverage of The London Brides' Ball, a
charity fundraiser presented by The Wedding Ring in an effort to raise money
in support of Breast Cancer research. Joseph was a big help in the editing
and post-production process, offering his expertise and creative ideas so
that we'd be able to show how truly wonderful the event was.
