Personally speaking...

Today's Drumbo Tent Company is run by J.R. and Monica Taylor. A.D. Enticknap, great grandfather to J.R. Taylor, established a blind-making business in Drumbo in 1890. His son Alfred joined him in the business which soon expanded to include hardware, tinsmithing and canvas manufacturing. After Alfred's time, his daughter Evelyn and her husband Jack Taylor (J.R.'s grandparents) took over the business and the focus soon became tent rentals. John and Laura (J.R.’s parents) then took over the business from J.R.’s grandparents and have spent their lives continuing to build the business. Today J.R. and his wife Monica, along with his parents, proudly carry on the long family tradition working with their clients to ensure the great reputation that precedes them carries on.

Our interview with Monica quickly showed us that she is one of the most easy-going people that you'll come into contact to when planning your wedding. She really takes the time to get to know you when you come to them, and what you and your fiancé are all about. Her sense of humour and friendly attitude make it easy to chat with her about the specifics that can sometimes seem stressful or overwhelming. Her professionalism and knowledge will leave you assured that Drumbo Tent will be able to provide you with the ideal wedding shelter.

"I love being able to keep my brides happy and going above and beyond their expectations. Just knowing that they are happy and pleased with our work is very gratifying. Putting it all together for the brides and creating that fairy tale dream wedding - like the ones you see in the movies - is what it’s all about...," Monica told us.

Providing tents with service

Most likely, your first experience with Drumbo Tent Company will be over the phone. If you already have a location in mind you will be able to go over the details of it with Monica or her staff. J.R. will then go to the site of choice to determine what tent sizes would work in the specific area. You will then have a chance to meet with Monica personally at their office in Drumbo if you'd like, to discuss details further. It will be at that time when Monica will take the time to go through photos and diagrams for each of your tent options - inside and out! This process can also be done over email and phone if it is more convenient for you.

When you choose Drumbo Tent for your rental, you not only receive help in designing and planning the details of a tent wedding but you will also receive Monica's planning services free of charge. She'll give you all the advice she can over the phone from her years of wedding orchestrating experience. Monica and her staff treat each of their clients more like family and not at all like a number. Whether you speak with Monica, J.R. or one of their staff, you will be treated with professionalism every time.

All about the tents

Drumbo Tent Company not only provides tents for weddings including ceremonies and receptions, but also for anniversaries, corporate functions, and events and parties of all types. With over fifteen pages of tent inventory available to their clients, you can just imagine how many functions Drumbo Tent can provide for each year. They have options for colour (white, off-white and striped), size (10' x 10' to 80' x 300'), shape (round, square, rectangular), style and more. They even boast one of the largest tents in all of Ontario, Monica told us, holding over 600 people inside.

When it comes to your wedding tent, Monica told us that their wedding tent inventory is used solely for that - just weddings. All corporate and special events tents are kept separate from their other stock. All of their tents are hand washed and cleaned after each use, keeping them in immaculate shape and ready for the next use. All of their tents are completely water and fire proof so your guests comfort and safety are top priority.

Accessorizing your tent is one of the ways to make an already unique option even more customized to you. Choose from dramatic lighting options, chandeliers, sidewalk canopies, curtains, flooring, carpeting, side tents for washrooms or caterers, dance floors, and even heating for spring or fall weddings.

Reworkable options

One of the biggest trends in tents that Monica has seen lately is the outdoor ceremony, held under a tent specifically chosen and set up for just that. While still allowing you all the beauty of wedding in the outdoor location of your choice, a tent will allow for the greatest comfort of you and your guests, rain or shine. And once the service is complete, the tent can be reworked with a new set-up and used as a smoking/cigar tent or a place for cocktails and mingling throughout the rest of the evening.

The most amazing thing about Drumbo Tent is their long tradition of family involvement. "What makes us unique and different is that we are a 117 year family-run business," explains Monica. This rich history offers you experts that not only know every corner of the industry, but are passionate about it. Even after all this time, J.R. and Monica have not lost the determination to make Drumbo Tent a growing and successful business, just as if they had started it themselves. This goes for a seemingly simple tent rental, a package with all the bells and whistles, and the free additional planning help that Monica offers to all of their brides.

Drumbo Tent is generally booked up for almost all weekend dates during the busy season every year. Their reputation and experience means that they are in demand and most often end up working seven days a week to make sure their clients are more than taken care of. Monica explains, "Our reputation is what sets us apart from others in our field. All of our tent installers are experienced professionals who know exactly what they are doing and know what is required."

One of the things Monica is most proud of is Drumbo Tent's word-of-mouth reputation. "Anyone who has attended a previous wedding under one of our tents, are usually on the phone the next day booking for their special function!" She says the experience of a tent wedding is like nothing else - so unique and generally enjoyed by all who attend. This unique atmosphere and the new features making tent weddings much more feasible is making tent weddings more and more popular everyday.

Monica told us that word-of-mouth is what brings most of their brides to them. "It’s amazing how many weddings we book through vendors whom we work closely with, past clients or guests attending other weddings!"

Pricing...

When we asking Monica to let us know what type of wedding Drumbo Tent most enjoys doing, she just couldn't narrow it down! This showed us their dedication to every budget, style and size that comes to them. "Every wedding is different so we price each package as per what the bride and groom requires. Prices are determined by surface that the tent goes on (grass being the most economical, or pavement, asphalt, carpet), location, size of tent, and any other extras that you choose (drapes, carpet, dance floor, etc.)."

To get an accurate quote on your tent from Drumbo Tent, Monica recommends having the following details in place: how many guests are attending the wedding, how many guest tables are required, how large the head table will be, will their be a caterer table, a cake table, a bar area, etc. This way, she can determine the square footage of the tent that would best suit your event using her years of experience.

• Monica recommends booking your tent 1 to 2 years in advance, or as soon as you get engaged to ensure availability. She recommends treating tent rental bookings the same as you would securing a reception hall.

• If your date is available for a last minute booking, it can be yours whenever possible.

• When you first book your tent as well as any additional tent accessories with Drumbo Tent, there is a deposit of 50% due.

• Your remaining balance is due the day of set-up, usually the day before or day of your wedding. This means that a family member or family friend needs to be on location to make the final payment and to be present for the set-up process.

• Drumbo Tent charges GST & PST on all of their prices.
