Scape Spa offers celebrity-style spa experience that draws brides and clients from all over Ontario

Interviewing Leeann Cronkwright, Proprietor, Scape Spa

After five years of offering a celebrity-style spa experience to its clients, Scape Spa has earned the right to be considered one of the top retreats in the area. From as far away as Toronto, brides and clients alike make it a point to come to this oasis for its legendary reputation.

If there was ever going to be a time for a bride to indulge in herself or treat her best friends, this would be it. But from water therapy to 'body bliss', Scape Spa isn't just about the services it offers or the attention that comes with them. It's an entire experience that results from being surrounded by the perfect space, decor, scent, sounds, and people.

Scape Spa is designed to give you an opportunity to step out of the wedding planning mania you've been experiencing for months. "Whether a bride comes to our spa to re-boot or to relieve the stress of all the little details that takes up so much of their time and energy, we help them re-coop and put everything back into perspective!," says Proprietor, Leeann Cronkwright. Every girl planning wedding details from start to finish has earned an aromatherapy or warm stone massage...

Personally speaking...

Only minutes outside Brantford in Mount Pleasant, we sat down with Leeann at the gorgeous spa to find out how her oasis and her own career came together in Scape Spa. 

Leeann began her career as an esthetician by opening a small clinic in Simcoe for seven years. Before opening Scape Spa, Leeann taught the Esthetic Program at Mohawk College for two years. In 2001, Leeann took her understanding of the spa and esthetics business and formed the professional, yet intimate business of Scape Spa.

Leeann may have the best possible qualifications and in-the-field experience that are so crucial in designing Scape Spa's success, but for Leeann, it's not really about that. This professional's face only truly lights up when she thinks about what motivates her everyday. "It’s the people by far, that makes this job so great! Just seeing our clients walk through our doors maybe under some stress from work or everyday hectic lives, and being able to see the transition when they leave is truly amazing!" Being able to facilitate the change that she sees in her clients is what empowers Leeann to work so hard to keep Scape Spa on top in the Brantford area and beyond.

Creating the mood

The atmosphere created by Scape's entrance and waiting area is one that already begins the process of taking the busyness of everyday life and wedding planning details out of your mind. A warm greeting from the staff, a stone fireplace with a crackling fire, cathedral ceilings with windows bringing sunlight in to cascade over the entire area... all these things work together to pamper Scape's clients. The soft sounds of waterfalls filled our ears, and the aromas of oils and luxurious creams filled the air. Even though this Mount Pleasant spa is only five minutes out of town, you still feel like you are escaping city life and driving to a serene oasis.

When we visited Scape Spa, we got to experience first hand the treatment that the staff extends to every client. We had the pleasure of watching a young couple preparing for their couple's massage. As they filled out their background and medical history form, they were offered a cozy seat in front of the fireplace, and brought a fresh glass of lemon water. Moments later, they were escorted by two professional massage therapists to begin their relaxing time together.

Scape staff

Even with the best facilities, a spa can not be the success that Scape Spa is without professional and welcoming staff. Leeann takes pride in her fully certified and registered staff of seventeen estheticians and massage therapists. Always following the specific industry guidelines for each treatment, Leeann knows that each of her experienced staff can be trusted to take care of her clients.

Providing a worry-free environment for their clients, means that the staff must always function well. Leeann explains that Scape's staff acts as a cohesive unit, "The fact that all the girls get along is why it works so well here. Our clients feel and experience that first hand when they are here receiving their treatments," she explains. "... what I love best about what I do is being able to work with the best, most professional staff! It makes my job so enjoyable, because it feels like a family."

Whether you are dealing with Leeann directly, or any one of her staff members, you will receive the same quality service that Scape prides themselves on. They strive to make any bride, groom and party feel at truly ease and welcome into their facility.

Offering brides...

Scape Spa's line-up of pampering services has brought many brides and their parties to their doors. Leeann says that she enjoys the excitement that bridal parties bring to the spa, "Our spring and summer months are definitely our busiest times. I would have to say on average we see about twenty to thirty bridal parties during each year!"

Getting completely wrapped up in the planning of your wedding is fun most of the time, but sometimes we all feel the stress of everyday life. "... sometimes brides forget to take care of what is most important and that is bringing back your mental aspect, recouping from the stress of planning the wedding, and creating that bonding time between you and the most important people in your life," says Leeann. More than just keeping you from turning into an overstressed bride, taking time for yourself and sharing it with those around you will make this time of your life the most enjoyable it can be.

Water therapy

Scape Spa offers services that can't be found in your 'around the corner' beauty salon. Their large location with its diverse facilities allow them to offer all the services you'd expect from a salon and spa, but also the extras that set them apart. One of these specialties is their hydrotherapy, or water therapy treatments. While the name may sounds strange, the concept is great and the results are unbelievable. The treatment consists of a water-based massage using directed water jets programmed and synchronized to increase lymphatic drainage. This massage of water relaxes sore muscles and stimulates circulation throughout the body.

Hydrotherapy is available in two different packages, each with its own regimen. Enjoy the waves of hydrotherapy for $60 includes: seaweed, aromatherapy, anti-stress, purifying. Under the Sea for $75 allows you to be enveloped in the waves of your choice. The spa therapist will relieve all of that body tension with an intense underwater massage, washing all of those knots down the drain.

Custom-built packages

Because Scape Spa has such an array of services available, sometimes it's hard to choose! Leeann advices that if you'd like to book a package for yourself, or a group to contact her and together you can work out an experience tailored to what you're looking for. When you have a date chosen and an idea of the services you're looking for, Leeann will customize a package for you and let you know exactly what the cost will be. Just as every bride is different from the next, so Leeann believes that their spa packages should be as well.

When you visit...

What you may not know is that there is general 'spa etiquette' that applies when visiting for one or more services at any spa. Scape Spa's recommendations for your appointments are simple and make your experience even more luxurious. Leeann recommends arriving a bit early for your appointment - twenty minutes is ideal - so that you can prepare to relax! Come even earlier if you'd like to enjoy their shower, steam room, or go for a swim. We found ourselves relaxing just by taking a few moments to enjoy Scape's peaceful waiting area. You are also provided with slippers, towels and robes to use during your time at Scape, completing the transformation from 'everyday' to 'escape'.

If you plan to visit with your fiancé, your mom, a group of friends or your bridal party, Scape will do everything possible to make your time there an experience that includes relaxation, as well as bonding. Many of the bridal parties that visit Scape like to start their spa experience in the hot tub, or outside on the patio when the weather is nice. This helps you unwind before your treatments and allows you to get the most of your time there. Just imagine having a spa day with your girls, enjoying their company while enjoying a light lunch or a platter of the most delicious appetizers and just talking about your big day. Enjoy your friendships and the bonding time with the people who mean the most to you while preparing your body for its bridal debut with massages, facials, manicures and pedicures.
