Tips to help ensure your wedding day runs smoothly
Timing is everything when it comes to a smooth-running - a.k.a.
stress-free - wedding day. Wedding officiant, Christina Brighton
of Celebrate Life, says that when she
began doing weddings, she
was amazed by how many brides were late for their own ceremony,
and even more amazed at the snowball effect this had on the rest
of their wedding day. "Some brides consider it to be
good luck
to be 15 minutes late, but
really, this is just a superstition."
After all, there is nothing lucky about missing your own
ceremony. If you are using an independent officiant, they may
have another wedding to perform that day – and they won’t be
late for it. Also, if you are hosting a catered cocktail hour
scheduled for directly after the ceremony, running late could
also mean lukewarm munchies. Yuk! Here are some ways to help
you pull of the perfect wedding day.
Timing is everything
Time out each portion of each day and make
sure your schedule is workable. Allow time for transportation
and photography. If you are having a receiving line, allot
considerable time to it unless the weather is cold or raining.
Schedule your wedding day
Leah Snyder of L Photography admits that
often wedding day schedules are unrealistic, if not just
impossible. There’s really never enough time to do everything
you want to. Scheduling as much as possible can help the day run
more smoothly. Pour a couple glasses of wine and sit down with
your groom-to-be to walk yourselves through the full wedding
weekend in your mind and on paper. Here are a few things allot
time to...
Spa time:
leave lots of time for this if you have more than one person
getting hair and/or make-up done at the same location
Travel time:
leave time for weather, accidents, flat tires...
'Just in case' time
Photo time:
photo shoot length at church, alternative locations, and
reception (ask your photographer how long photos will take)
Receiving line time
Cocktail hour time
Initial mingling time:
before the reception swings into gear
Speech time:
try to get speech timings several days before the wedding but
count on some going over or under in length
Free time:
you have to allot some time to get away from the crowd with your
groom and take a breather here and there. It’ll be a relief from
the fast forward speed of the day, and most often, it’ll be
romantic because you just tied the knot!!
With
a little planning, you’ll have more fun on your wedding day
while looking to your guests as if you’ve hosted a thousand
grand affairs before it...

We're
Engaged!
Post subject: August 4th,
2007 - Brantford
"I
can’t believe were finally planning our big day for August 4th, 2007.
Ray and I have been together for 5 years now. He proposed in January of
2003 but we decided to wait for a
number
of reasons.
1. I wanted a spring or summer wedding and 3-6 months was
not enough time to plan, not to mention the hall was booked solid for
the next year.
2. He has custody of his two boys from a previous
marriage so I needed some time and the boys needed some time to adjust
to each other, I must say I am so happy to have become an instant mom.
No stretch marks, at least not until we decide to have a child of our
own.
3. Money, we decided to buy a new house and get out of the house he
was living in as it was from his first marriage. We wanted to start off
fresh and put
his past behind him. Create our own
memories as a family in our home with the boys.
He
surprised me when he thought it was time to start planning. We were at a
friends’ cottage for the
weekend. He had asked his friend to be his best man while there. So
since his best friend said yes to being his best man he said we better
start planning before he
changes his mind. It was a bit of a shock as I
had no idea of his intentions. That week the plans went into action,
emailing the reception site, my family
and the church from up in the Muskokas. Now here I am trying to put everything together for our big
day. I
thought it would be easier as I had been planning since I was a
teenager and really started looking
right after the
engagement but to my
surprise it’s a lot harder putting everything into action. No worries
though, I’m loving it..."

Most Romantic/Strange
Proposals
Post subject: a romantic
weekend & a romantic engagement
"I
just wanted to share my engagement story. As my Christmas gift Chad
had planned a romantic weekend away for us at the Bear Trails Resort
in Algonquin. So at the end of February we loaded up the car &
headed north. On the drive he was kind of distant which was weird
because usually car rides is when we have our best conversations, so
1 as long as this one should have been full of funny topics just
between us. We arrived early & our room wasn't ready for us yet so
we went to the games room & played very competitive air hockey and
other games. When our room was ready I wanted to look around. Enjoy
the scenery from the room maybe use the hot tub & fireplace just
relax for a bit. Nope get your skates we are going skating now. HUh!
for almost 4 years I was the 1 lets go skating, lets go skating. It
had never happened. No time to waste come on lets go skating. Ok so
we bundled up in heavy winter clothes layered so much we were barely
recognizable to each other. After knee surgery a couple of years ago
I am bit hesitant at 1st getting my bearings. Chad skates off
zooming by me, then falls. Great I think, we are all worried about
my knee & now he falls & isn't getting up. He asked me to come over
& help him, since he is a foot taller & outweighs me by a fair bit I
am thinking how am going to help lift him up & how am I going to get
him to a hospital if he needs it. So I hold out my hand to help him
up. He says "No your other hand" What difference does it make what
hand , but fine so I hold out my left hand & he then removes my mitt
& starts going through his pocket. Then it hits me he is on bended
knee holding my hand out when he pulls out the box and asks "roseanne
will you marry me?"
My
1st reaction "no you are not hurt you jerk I thought you were
seriously injured & was worried" was what was going through my mind
but I couldn't let no you jerk be my 1st words so I just stood there
shaking & crying. When I finally hugged him there was applause
from out f the blue. I guess some of
the staff had
been watching & saw him fall. They also were worried about
him, when the girl saw what he
as
doing she called over
her coworkers
to
the window to watch so they took my hug as a yes & started cheering!
When I recovered I said very clearly Yes, Yes I will marry you. It
was the perfect to start to an unforgettable weekend. Prior to
asking me he had visited my parents & asked their permission 1st.
The most unbelievable part is my Mum was able to keep the secret
until I called her to tell her I was engaged. It seemed when he
asked me I was the only 1 who didn't already know he had planned on
asking me. And surprise..."

My Diary
Post subject: Almost out of time
"Well girls my wedding is 3months
and a couple days away. With Christmas in their i really feel like there
is no time to do anything and i think i am going a little crazy. Anyway
just a few more things to do. And it will all be ok. Just not realizing
how busy it actually can be. I thought we were ahead on everything but
we are actually not. I loose a whole entire month of planning. Well have
